1497464 Electric couplings INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 21 May 1975 [26 June 1974] 21853/75 Heading H2E A female electrical connector member comprises a tubular braid 12 disposed within an elongated plastics housing 10, one end of the braid being clamped to one end 14 of the housing, and the other open end being connected via a connecting member 22 and a resilient movable pressure plate 24 to the other end 28 of the housing. The insertion of the male pin 36 causes longitudinal compression of the braid, resulting in its diameter being increased. When the pin is completely inserted (Fig. 5, not shown) the pressure plate returns to its initial position under the action of the springs 30, causing the braid to frictionally contact the pin. The strands of the braid may be of tin-coated copper. The connector is used for low-voltage, high current applications. |
