Parent patent relates to a heat insulating gas permeable carrier for introducing inoculating agents into molten metal. To prevent sudden disintegration of the carrier in case of blockage, channels or passages are provided in the carrier body by incorporating an (in)organic, and/or synthetic substance which is volatile, and disintegrates with vol. redn. on heating. By providing channels or passages readily for the evolution or movement of the vapour or melt formed by the inoculating substance, the danger of explosion with health hazard is eliminated.
