The belt is used for holding a suitcase and the belt can form, together with its lockable buckle, the only fastener for the suitcase. The safety belt has a housing with a roller. The latter rotates about its longitudinal axis and a long flexible belt end (15) can be pushed through the housing and out of it. The housing and rollers form path for the flexible belt. A key (20) actuates the belt buckle mechanism so that the roller is not able to rotate. The relative movement of the flexible components at the end of the belt relative to the roller is prevented when the roller is not able to rotate.
