The mechanism distributes metered quantities of bulk or piece goods such as wood, packets, sacks etc., delivered from a supply unit to a processing station. Two or more straight conveyors are mounted alongside each other at the same level, and below and/or alongside their discharge ends are one or more further conveyors delivering to the processing station. The adjacent straight conveyors are of different lengths, their inlet ends being immediately adjacent to the supply unit, so that they extend from the latter for different distances. There can be two or more sets of conveyors with different lengths, and the conveyors of different lengths can be driven at different speeds, either at a fixed or adjustable ratio to each other.
