The clarinet has a hole (4) in the barrel (2) which is normally closed by a pad (5) on a lever mechanism (6). This hole (4) is positioned at the same height as a shoulder (3) around the inside of the barrel (2) for limiting the insertion of the mouthpiece into the barrel. The mechanism (5, 6) for closing the hole (4) is linked to a further pad (10) and lever (8) for closing an opening at the front of the barrel. The hole (4) is opened to provide the fifth overtone or the seventeenth note above the base tone. Pref. the lever stops mechanism (5, 6) is linked to the lever stop mechanism (8, 10) and to the hole used to play the twelfth note above the base tone.
|
