Antifungal macrolide antibiotic-meglumine complexes - used e.g. for treating candidosis, systemic mycosis and trichomoniasis

Macrolide antibiotic-meglamine complexes of formula are new: (where R is the residue of a fungicidal polyene macrolide antibiotic, pref. amphotericin, B, mycoheptin, levorin or nystatin). (I), opt. contg. up to 5 moles excess of N-methyl-d-glucosamine (II) to give better solubility, are used for treating candidosis, aspergillosis, systemic mycosis, leishmaniasis, schistosomiasis, lambliasis, trichomoniasis, and prostate hypertrophy. Compared with the starting antibiotics. (I) have higher water-solubility, better absorption in the digestive tract after oral administration, beter compatibility and lower liver toxicity.
