Superconductor overcurrent limiter in AC circuit - consists of hollow outer conductor with super conducting layers

A superconducting cable is used for conveying alternating currents. It has very low losses and is inserted in a mains supply network where it acts as an over-current limiter without any additional circuits. The superconductor (1) is connected to the outside or inside of a hollow conductor in the form of a layer (2). The layer can be built up of wires or strips (20). The outer conductor of the cable also consists of a hollow conductor (3) with a super conducting layer (4) on the inside. The hollow conductors are coil shape with the number of turns being a function of the super conducting layers. The inductive resistance of the conductor is less than the resistance of the super conducting layer in normal conditions. On the over-current condition, the inductive resistance will increase to limit the value to the rated current.
