The tape comprises 2 weld-bonded plastics film tapes between which several optical glass-fibres are arranged in spaced, side-by-side, relationship. The glass-fibres are single or in bundles and are located in chambers extending longitudinally in the laminate. The tape is made of PTFE film sintered together. Between the chambers, strands are firmly embedded in "bridge" zones of the tape, adapted to absorb any longitudinally acting compressive stresses in the tape. Used in mfr. of optical cables. Superior mechanical strength is obtd.
