Clamp for vehicle exhaust pipe sections - uses U:shaped spring steel clip to secure flange pipe ends butted together

Two exhaust pipes (1, 2) which are joined end to end, are with external radial flanges (4). The flanges (3) are an integral part of the pipes and are produced by flaring the pipe ends. A spring steel bracket (4) is used to provide the force required for axially clamping the pipe flanges together. The bracket is U-shaped such that the two nearly parallel sides are in contact with the flange of pipe (1). The base (4, 3) and the two free ends (4, 4) of the U-bracket are axially offset so that they can hook over the flange of the second pipe.
