This safety device, in which a magnetic field generator (4) and a magnetic field sensor (5) are arranged on the rail vehicle one next to the other with respect to the direction of travel (7) and at least one second magnetic field sensor (15) is arranged offset with respect to the first magnetic field sensor (5) in the direction of travel (7), which sensors interact inductively when the rail vehicle passes by with induction coils which are arranged in their movement tracks fixedly one next to the other and whose interaction can be switched over electrically, serves for the safe detection of magnetic signals. In order to avoid influencing of the safety device by local, magnetic interference fields, past which the rail vehicle travels, the magnetic field sensor (15) which lies ahead in the direction of travel (7) is connected to the input of a delay circuit (16) and the output of the delay circuit (16) and the magnetic field sensor (5) which lies behind in the direction of travel are connected to a logic element (17, 19). By means of the logic connection of the states of both magnetic field sensors (5, 15) signals which are triggered by means of the device's own magnetic field generator (4) are detected and phantom signals brought about by extraneous magnetic fields are suppressed. <IMAGE>
