1414020 Butyrophenone derivatives SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 11 June 1973 [12 June 1972] 27627/73 Heading C2C Novel compounds of formula wherein R 1 represents a hydroxyl group or the group N-R 6 -R 7 wherein R 6 and R 7 are each a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group or, when taken together with the adjacent nitrogen atom, may form a heterocyclic group; R 2 represents an optionally substituted phenyl group or the group wherein R 8 and R 9 are each a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group or, when taken together with the adjacent nitrogen atom, may form a heterocyclic group, R 4 represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group or an optionally substituted phenyl group; R 5 represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a lower alkoxy group or a trifluoromethyl group; R 10 represents a hydrogen atom or an acyl group represented by R 3 CO- wherein R 3 is a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group or an optionally substituted phenyl group and Z represents two hydrogen atoms or an oxygen atom, provided that when Z is an oxygen atom and R 1 is the group N-R 6 -R 7 , R 10 does not represent a hydrogen atom, and the acid addition salts of the said compounds, ("lower" denotes groups of up to 4 carbon atoms), are prepared by oxidation of a compound of Formula II to give a compound of Formula III the N-acyl group of which may optionally be hydrolized. Pharmaceutical compositions in conventional forms for oral or parenteral administration having neuroleptic, tranquillizing, sedative, analgesic and/or hypertensive activity comprise an above novel compound and a carrier or diluent.
