The receiver (14) controls the operating mechanisms for the lamps in a specific sequence. These operating mechanisms are pref. servo-motors (16) which control the on and off positions of braking lights (44) and indicator lights (42) in dependence on signals received from a transmitter which is mounted on the vehicle. This transmits the predetermined signals to the receiver according to the braking function of the vehicle and the indicator switches. The receiver which is battery operated is mounted with its batteries inside the helmet so that the appearance of the latter is still streamlined.
