Video recording tape with very low colour noise - obtd. using smooth substrate tape and rolling magnetic recording layer

A magnetic recording layer (1) is produced on a nonmagnetic substrate (2), where the substrate (2) has a surface roughness of max. 0.35 mu m, pref. max. 0.33 mu m. The composite is then pressed between a metal roll and an elastic plastic roll with min. Shore hardness 75 degrees, esp. min. 80 degrees. Substrate (2) is pref. chosen from at least one polyester; polyolefin; cellulose deriv.; polycarbonate; metal; or ceramic; and is pref. 3-150 um thick, esp. an elastic substrate 3-100 um thick. The metal roll is pref. made of steels contg. (a) 18Cr-8Ni; (b) 25 Cr-20Ni-0.2C; (c) 18Cr-12Ni-2.5 Mo-0.06C; or (b) a carbon tool steel; and the metal roll may be coated with hard chromium. The elastic plastic roll is pref. made from a polyamide; polyimide; polyamide-imide; polyurethane; or neoprene. A roll pressure of 10-80 kg/cm2 is pref. used at 10-180 degrees C. Process is for mfg. of recording material, esp. video tape with a low colour noise, A picture with improved colour and higher signal noise ratio is obtd.
