<p>A self adhesive postage stamp has a protective backing foil that is readily separated. The postage stamps (4) are produced in strips with separating perforations (6). The rear surface of the stamps are coated with a suitable contact adhesive except for a region near the perforations. The The region without adhesive may either be rectangular or semi-circular (10). The entire adhesive surface of the strip of stamps is protected by a thin paper foil.
