<p>The inside of the tubeless tyre has a safety container fitted to the wheel rim. This has a two part housing which can be extended radially on telescopic walls, sealed with gaskets (19) and contains a sealing compound. A release valve (18) faces the inside of the tread. If the tyre pressure falls then the excess pressure inside the container allows it to be extended, helped by the centrifugal force, so that the release valve comes into contact with the inside of the tyre. When the tyre is deflated by a set amount then the valve opened to release the sealing compound. The tyre is sealed and retains sufficient pressure to drive the vehicle to a repair centre. The container can be fitted to any design of tubeless tyre wheel rim and provides similar safety as the more expansive safety tyres.</p> |
