A filler which improves fire-resistant, heat- and sound-proofing materials is claimed. The filler is a fumed, amorphous silica, pref. obtd. during the electrothermal prodn. of iron and or ferrosilicon or during Si prodn. The filler may be added to cement or gypsum compsns.
