Prostaglandin derivs. of formula (I), in optically active or racemic form, are new. (whre A = CH2OH or -COOR;R=H, 1-14C alkyl, or a cation; the symbol . . . . . . is a single or double bond and when it is a double bond R3 = H and R1 and R2 form an oxo group, and when it is a single bond R3 = H or OH and one of R1 and R2 = H and the other is OH, or R1 and R2 = oxo group; B = trans-CH = CH- or -C = C-; one of R4 and R5 = H and other is OH or 1-4C alkoxy; X = O or when B = -C = C-, it may represent -CH2-; n = 0-5; R6=1-6C alkyl, 3-7C cycloalkyl or phenyl opt. substd. by halogen, 1-6C alkoxy or trihalomethyl). Similar to natural prostaglandins but since they are not broken down by 15-prostaglandin dehydrogenase they are more selective in their action. They have anti-hypertension and anti-brochospasmic action but very little spasmogenic activity. |
