An assembly for automatically locking a male piece which slides up and down in a female piece consists of a cylindrical centre section with a flat (7a) with a recess machined onto the flat of the male piece. The female piece has a slot (9) through it with a notch (10) on one wall. To lock the male piece, a spring (19) is inserted in the direction of the arrow (F1) using the long end (2). The short end of the spring (22) engages with the notch (10). The spring (19) holds the female piece against the shoulder of the machined recess in the male piece. Rotating the female piece in the direction (F2) releases the spring from the recess permitting the male to slide.
