The water tap has an inlet flange (4) with a circular hole (5) ending in a chamber (24). The chamfer forms a seat for the O-ring (26) which fits in a groove (25) in the valve plate (2). The valve plate is provided with a lug (12) for the spindle (14). The spindle is supported in holes in the body (1) and is attached to the lever (16). By rotating the lever through 90 deg. the valve plate (2) is lifted clear of the seat (24) and the tap is fully open. The use of the chamfer to form a conical seat (24) obviates the need for accurate alignment of the valve disc (2).
