The rotor, for a rotating machine, has porous fibres or threads (1) laid into the slots and left with their ends (4) projecting. These ends are positioned beneath a drip feed (5) that allows the impregnating liquid to be taken up by the fibre ends. The porosity of the fibres draws the impregnating liquid along to the other end (3) of the winding to make a rigid winding overhang. The fibres may be introduced either after or before the winding wire ends are cut or after the collector segments are welded.
