<p>The lamp base is formed by sections fitting one on top of the other and each having its own function apart from acting as part of the base. The sections form a path for the current by contact studs between them, the top contact being typically a fixed non-protruding stud and the bottom one of the protruding spring type. The base sections can be in the form of vases or ashtrays. Alternatively they can be hollow and cylindrical, with male and female spigots at top and bottom respectively. The lamp can be switched on and off by turning one of the base sections. The sections can be straight and non-circular, switching on and off being done by changing the position of one of the sections.</p> |
