A process for redn. of useful metal contg. Fe-contg. slags as well as intermediate products partic. from Cu and Ni melting processes. The slags are reduced opt. with addns. of Fe and/or S, such that the compsn. in the solid state corresponds to the bornite-pyrrhotine equilibrium and to such a quantity of metallic phase that the formation of Ni, Co pentlandite is avoided. The metallised sulphide melt is slowly cooled and the useful metals are sepd. Useful metals are recovered in low proportions of high Fe-contg. salgs and oxidic, sulphidic or metallic intermediate products of pyrometallurgical processes under better control than processes used hitherto. The process requires the control of compsn. of the sulphide melt by addn. of Fe scrap, Fe sulphide or elementary sulphur. By cooling of the melt, the Fe contg. phase crystallises out along with elements such as Ni, Co, Ga, Pt, etc. conc. in it, while the usual Cu sulphide phase can be sepd. by magnetic means or other usual processes.
|
