<p>A door for a coke oven of the horizontal chamber type is fitted, fixed to the door frame, with a seal frame, made of heat resisting spring steel strip. Springs which maintain their elastic properties at high temps. act on the outer periphery of this seal frame and are compressed by a knife edge attached to the door body. A refractory sealing compound makes the joint between door frame and seal frame gas-tight. This is an inexpensive and functionally reliable way of sealing the joint between the door frame and the door body automatically during the entire coking process. The springs compensate for all thermally induced distortions of door frame or door body.</p> |
