<p>1523049 Data sets WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 24 Nov 1976 [26 Nov 1975] 49070/76 Heading H4L A programmable universal data set is provided, for simultaneously coupling a plurality of data terminals 700 providing a diversity of data formats, to an analogue transmission medium, e.g. telephone lines 800, the set servicing all the terminals in time division multiplex, the character of the terminal changing in synchronism with the terminal sampling and in accordance with the program, to suit the particular terminal. The set includes high speed digital processor 200 having a parallel input/output structure, operating in conjunction with cyclic processor 100 functioning as the main control element, and containing means in which parameters defining the nature of the data set for each of the terminals, is stored, as well as means for implementing the programs, which can be changed to suit the particular plurality of terminals serviced. Data within the set is handled in a t.d.m. frame, Fig. 2 (not shown), facility being provided to sample the terminal data once per frame, although, since the terminals, and set, operate asynchronously; data registers 320, 310 providing buffer storage between the respective rates; data from all terminals need not be presented for each frame. Data passes to medium 800 via D/A converters and low pass filters, in number corresponding to the terminals, and passes from the medium via automatic gain control arrangements, and A/D converters. Particular examples of program types are given, e.g. FSK modulation and demodulation, DPSK modulation, maintaining a phase lock loop, or FSK reception associated with PSK transmission. The set communicates via the medium 800, with remote computers.</p> |
