<p>The poppet valve (1) for an internal combustion engine is cooled by oil which flows through internal passages. The valve stem (2) has an enlarged end (4) with a screw thread (5) terminating in a circular flange (6). The valve stem (2) has two parallel holes (12, 13) which run into radial holes (14, 15) in the flange (6). The valve head (3) is provided with an annular groove (11) which aligns with the radial holes (14, 15) when the stem is screwed into the thread (21) and the flange (6) fits into the recess (7). The interfaces of the stem and head are then sealed by brazing. This design of valve provides a shock resistant joint between stem and head.</p> |
