The automotive inner shoe brake for heavy goods vehicles has an intermediary member (12) rigidly connected to the brake shoe carrier. The member supports the facing free end of the single brake shoe at right angles with a radially directed contact surface (12a). - With a second support (10) near the free end and a third in the centre of the brake shoe carrier (5), the brake shoe (8) is supported radially outwards towards the brake drum. The other brake shoe free end supports in the backwards braking direction on a fixed counter bearing (18) of the shoe carrier (5). The counter bearing surface (11a) is so directed towards the brake shoe rotary point (6) that the shoe (8), during backwards braking, is connected to its carrier.
