1493733 Boring bars KENNAMETAL Inc 4 Aug 1975 [22 Aug 1974] 32469/75 Heading B3C A boring bar has a longitudinally-extending, lateral notch 12, Figs. 1, 8, supporting a cartridge 14 having an end pocket for an insert 18 (clamped by member 20). The cartridge is clamped in the notch by a screw 24 near its rearward end and is spring biased at its forward end towards the notch by means of a spring washer 36 on a screw 32 passing through the cartridge and screwed into the notch wall. A cam 60, Figs. 4, 8 mounted on the end of a draw rod 76 engages a cam follower 44 at a flexible portion 52 thereof, Figs. 6, 7 which in turn engages the cartridge near the forward end (as shown via adjustable abutment screw 122 screwed into the cartridge). On axial movement of the rod 76 by means of, as shown, a rotatable axially fixed nut 90 engaging screw threads 88 on the rod which is biased forwardly by spring 82 and rotationally fixed (by bar 104, Fig. 9, not shown), nose portion 66 of the cam cams outwardly the flexible portion 52 of the follower which forces out the end of the cartridge 14. The cartridge may be longitudinally adjusted by screw 26, Fig. 1, screw 24 passing through a slot in the cartridge and screw 32 being a loose fit in its bore 30, 34 to allow for this. The flange of nut 90 may be graduated (Fig. 9, not shown). |
