Worn rail renewal method - involves welding soft material into worn areas and machining out recess for austenitic filling

The renewal production method is for use in respect of worn guide surfaces of rails and involves the filling of the worm parts by welding on appropriate material and then machining down the thus applied material to conform with the exact profile of the rail. The method firstly involves the complete filling of the wom space with a soft ferritc welding material, followed by the machining out of a recess in the filling of between 6 to 10 mm wide and 5 to 6 mm deep. The ferritic material used should preferably have a content of 0.07% C, 0.5% Si and 1.6% Mn. The machined out recess is then filled with welding material which is not ferromagnetic but contains Cr and Ni, being high in resistance to corrosion.
