A composite die for hydrostatic extrusion is composed of a preforming portion with a conical inlet portion and an end-forming portion, separated from each other along a radially dividing plane. A force-absorbing support ring surrounds that part of the end-forming portion which is in contact with and nearest the pre-forming portion. There is a gap on the outside of the part of the end-forming portion remote from the pre-forming portion. Separate rings surround and abut the calibrating end-forming portion and the support ring.
