Appts. having a slop-padding bath a pair of squeegee rollers and a guide roller for passing the web in an endless path through the bath, has individual drives for the guide roller and a lower roller, whereby the guide roller speed is adjustable relative to the lower roller speed to control the trailing of the guide roller. Webs having width of =14m are passed in a trouble free manner through all the processing steps in a spread wrinkle free state to ensure contact tension which in turn leads to constant quality of produced webs.
