1,232,582. Electroless deposition on to particles; electro-deposition on to fluidized electrode particles. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. May 1, 1968 [May 9, 1967], No.21557/67. Headings C7B and C7F. Particles of substantially uniform shape having metal surfaces are produced by electro-chemically depositing surface metal on to substantially uniform particles which form a fluidized bed electrode in a plating bath. The particles may have a core of metal, glass or plastics material. If the core is non-conducting, it is first coated with metal by electroless deposition or by vapour deposition. Glass beads may be treated with a solution containing silver nitrate and ethanol prior to electroless deposition of copper from a bath containing cupric carbonate, sodium hydroxide, glycerol and formaldehyde. Zinc may then be electro-deposited from an electrolyte zinc sulphate and potassium hydroxide using a spiral nickel anode and a copper current feeder to the fluidized cathode. Alternately lead may be electro-deposited upon a nickel layer deposited electrolessly, using as electrolyte a solution of lead fluoroborate and gelatine and using a platinum spiral anode and a copper or nickel spiral as current connector to the fluidized cathode. |
