The variable resistor comprises a carrier having an electrical resistance and a slider movable along a taping path across the resistor. To enable large changes in resistance to be achieved without the need for large rotational or displacement paths to be travelled by the slider, the slider has an effective length matching approx. the length of the tapping path. The longitudinal axis of the slider subtends an acute angle with the tapping path on the resistor, at least on part of its length. A small change in angle between the slider and resistor rapidly changes the number of turns covered, and consequently the resistance of the device.
|
