The spiral staircase steps taper inwards, with a round widened head at the narrowest point fitted by the central support axis. This leaves an area adequately supported towards the outside periphery. There is a small retainer collet on the opposite head side, between the support axis and outside head edge. The filler piece (6) interposed in the head area is sloped in shape at the end (21) on the step side, in the stair-case direction of curvature. The hole (20) for the support bolt may be offset from the filler piece centre in this direction.
