The voltage of the main supply part is lowered periodically so that the emergency power battery (3) takes over the supply to the consumer. A comparator transmits a signal when the consumer is not being supplied sufficiently. The comparator compares the output voltage of the battery with a reference voltage. It can compare with a reference voltage a voltage drop occurring due to supply of the consumer by the emergency power battery. The periodic lowering can be such that the comparator output signal can be processed as an alternating-current signal.
