Additives for lowering the pour point and inhibiting wax deposition in 167-392 deg. C middle distillate fractions contg. at least 10 wt. % of 302 deg. C+ material comprise a mixt. of: (a) a soln. of benzoic acid (I) and formic acid (II) in MeOH, EtOH, cyclohexanol and/or i-PrOH, with a (I):(II) molar ratio of 5:1 to 1:5; and (b) a soln. of a 12-22C fatty amine (III) in a 127-397 deg. C hydrocarbon fraction (IV), where (III) has a primary amine content of at least 75%. The (I):(II) molar ratio is pref. 1:1.75-2. The wt. ratio of alcohol solvent to (I) is 1.5-6:1. The (III:(IV) wt. ratio is 1:1-3. (IV) is xylene, a 9/12C aromatic fraction or diesel oil. Components (a) and (b) are combined in amts. such that (I)+(II) and (III) are present in stoichiometric proportions. The compsns. may also contain a 402-627 deg. C hydrocarbon fraction and/or an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer. In an example, a typical additive was prepd. by dissolving 50g 'Rofamin T' in 50 g xylene, cooling the soln. to 15 deg. C, and mixing with a soln. of 19.7g (I) and 1.75g of 85% (II) in 30g MeOH. |
