<p>The hammer driving mechanism is particularly for use in a typewriter etc., where the hammer strikes a selected character in front of it under the effect of a magnetic field so as to print a sheet of paper moving past it. The hammer tip (11) has a coil fixed to it (31) whose windings are at right angles to the lines of force of the magnetic field. In the rest position these windings lie at least partly in the magnetic field. Current impulses are fed to the coil, so as to move the hammer in the plane of the windings under the effect of Lorentz force. Guides direct the hammer along a predetermined path in the direction of the Lorentz force, and means are provided to return it to the rest position.</p> |
