The internally illuminated frame may be used to mount e.g. pictures and may comprise a compound return flanged channel section. The section contains sealed light sources (24) and has reflectorized internal surfaces with the result that a uniform illuminating flux is cast over the picture. The reflectorized surfaces are not visible in frame elevation and the mult-reflected light rays emanate from the picture perimeter. The compound frame may comprise a rear mounting frame of 'L' section members (18) and the lighting frame (10). The latter may be of square 'U' section (16, 30, 32) with the opening facing the frame interior. The inner leg (16) of the 'U' may return (20) at 45 deg. into the channel to form an inclined baffle behind which neon lighting tubes (24) are mounted.
