High speed bar shearing tool - has cam to release locking lever and actuate system of wedges to clamp and position billet support

A bar shearing tool for use in a press has the bar (B) fed through a clamp (24) against a backstop (30). The press bears down on the platten (10) which carries the cutting blade (48). As it descends and contacts the billet, the cam (28) releases the cocking lever (26), allowing the spring mechanism (12) to move towards the press. This acts through a wedge to clamp the bar during shearing. At the same time, a wedged pin (36) is pushed down moving the billet support (32) into position. When the shearing stroke is completed the support is pulled clear allowing the billet to clear. As the press reaches the top of the stroke the cocking levers (26) are reset allow the bar to be fed for the next cut.
