Alcoves, nitches or recesses in the walls of old houses etc. are kept dry by a heating system esp. when the building is constructed on wet soil, or has porous foundations, walls etc. Electric heating elements insulated against humidity are incorporated in the walls, and can be controlled by a thermostat positioned away from the walls, e.g. inside the alcove. These elements may be in the form of zig-zag flexible cables. They may be calibrated so as to have a self-regulating effect, instead of using a thermostat. The result is removal of all humidity in the walls.
|
