The coupling mechanism for use on road-signs, parking meters and similar, is designed to give way when subjected to lateral impact from a vehicle. The mechanism comprises an upright, a base, a coupling element and its housing. One end of the housing is attached to the base, the other to the upright, each end having an opening into which the coupling element is inserted. This extends inside the housing which also contains ribs forming the minimum resistance areas. These ribs surround the openings through which the coupling element is inserted and extend right along the housing. When the upright receives a horizontal impact, the housing breaks radially, freeing the coupling element and allowing the base to separate from the upright.
|
