Continuous quenching of bars - without intervening air cooling period, avoiding distortion

A continuous quenching process comprises immersing the bars in the quenching medium one by one after horizontally removing the bars from a furnace. After quenching the bars are individually removed from the quench. The bars are transferred directly from the furnace to the quench tank. Each bar as it moves through the tank is rotated about its longitudinal axis. The quench tank is automatically treated to remove scale. The quench medium is washed off the bars and retained. Distortion of the bars is avoided. Since each bar is individually quenched it is not affected by the presence of the other bars. Fire hazards are reduced.
