<p>The cross structure is mounted at the top of the a pole supporting low or medium voltage overhead power cables. The structure is intended to yield and distort if the loading on the cable nears its breaking point, and the structure acquires a permanent set. The spacing and support arms (4) are formed from folded sheet metal and they are tapered from a deep 'U' form at the point of attachment to the pole. The taper is such as to effect a uniform stress along the length of the arm. Two such arms may be used back and secured by 'U' bolts or they can be rooted in a box.</p> |
