The classical dancing e.g. ballet shoes have a specially reinforced sole and a high upper and are designed to reduce and correct foot strain and deformation. The shoes permit dancing on the toes and support the natural sole contours without deformation. The foot casing may be of a unique funnel form, and high uppers may be provided to prevent metatarsal damage. The sole reinforcement may take the form of inset plates (6, 7) in the toe and instep zones with an intermediate supple piece (8) in the joint zone.
