Oxidn. dye-based hair dyeing compsns. contain 2-alkoxy-4,5,6-triaminopyrimidine(s) (I), some of which are new, or their organic or inorganic salts, as developer components, and standard couplers for oxidn. dyes. (I) have formula: (where R is 1-4 C alkyl; R1 and/or R2 is/are 1-4 C alkyl, (CH2)nX(n = 1-4 and X is OH), halogen, -NH2, -NHR1 or -NR'R"; R' and R" are 1-4 C alkyl, or, together with N, can form a heterocyclic ring opt. contg. a further N or O atom; R1 and R2 together with N can form an opt. substd. 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring contg. 1 or 2 N atoms or an N and an O atom). Specific (I) are 2-methoxy-4,5-diamino-6-morpholino-pyrimidine, -6-dimethyl-aminopyrimidine and -6-anilino-pyrimidine. The compsns. are used as creams, emulsions, gels or solns., esp. at pH 8-10 and 15-40 degrees C. Shades obtd. range from light brown to dark- or red-brown, olive yellow and dark green. (I) form fast, strong shades, are soluble in water, resist storage, are non-toxic and do not irritate skin. Good dye effects can be achieved by oxidn. with air-O2. Oxidising agents are required for achieving a lightening effect.
