Deck stowage clamp for containers on shipboard employs push-in cleating lugs (4). On the longer sides (5) of the lugs close to the bottom edge are horizontal strips or a key piece which slot into horizontal grooves of suitable shape in the mounting plate (2). Preferably the strip or key and groove for this in the plate should be triangular in section, though it is also possible to use a semicircular section or again a section compounded of semicircle and rectangle. This anchors the stowed container in all directions and prevents damage or loss caused by shifting across or along the deck.
