Pellets composed of metal oxide ores or concentrates are given superior compressive strength and abrasion resistance by using as binder the fine dust from the waste gases of furnaces used for the prodn. of Si metal or Si contg. alloys. The dust is mainly composed of SiO2. Pref. SiO2 contg. dust is used in combination with another binder of known type, for example bentonite, sulphite liquor, or molasses.
