<p>The appts. for the locating of water borne acoustic signals consists of a buoy carrying a system for detecting sound signals and transmitting the signals by radio. The appts. includes a buoy (1) which has been deposited on the surface of the sea etc., by e.g. an aircraft, with the buoy supporting a switch box (3) on an elastic cable (2). The switch box is coupled to a water permeable housing (4) containing hydrophones (6) and a magnet unit (8) mounted on a pointed pivot (7). The magnet maintains the assembly in a plane containing magnetic north with signals from the hydrophones being fed to a transmitter through circuits (13, 14). Blades (17) extend from the switch box to effect damping of motions of the appts.</p> |
