The axial thrust bearing is used esp. in a ship propulsion unit. An arbitrary number of sliding pads are arranged between a flat face of a shaft flange and the associated thrust face of the bearing housing. No cage is used for guiding the sliding pads and the pads are able to tilt without danger of being carried along by the shaft flange. The sliding pads (4) are connected by hinged connecting members (5) to each other. These connecting members are held so that play exists between the connecting members and sliding pads. Individual connecting members (5) are designed as chain links and have slots or holes or large dia. and the sliding pads are provided with pins which pass through these slots or large size bores. |
