<p>A connector is made ffor metal pipes (1) which are coated with plastic, esp. pipes employed to carry drinking water, using a socket in which at least one pipe end is inserted; and the end of the pipe(s) is protected against corrosion. The connector uses at least one ring-shaped part made of a metal (2) which is lower in the electrochemical series than metal (1), and the pipe ends butt against the ring-shaped part; the connector and the pipe ends are then bonded together. The connector pref. consists of an outer socket contg. an internal shoulder made of Zn against which the ends of plastic-coated steel pipes are located. For joining two adjacent ends of pipes which are plastic-coated, and which also have an outer sheath of thermal insulation, the connector socket is pref. surrounded by a sleeve which is crimped onto the two pipes. Two other pref. connector designs are included. The Zn shoulder in the connector socket forms a sacrificial anode protecting the bare cut end of the pipes from corrosion.</p> |
