<p>Prepn. of a fabric finish is effected by the combination of sucrose acetoisobutyrate (I) with a polymer in aq. medium. The polymer is pref. a polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl acetate polyacrylate, acrylate/styrene copolymer or vinyl methyl ether/maleic anhydride copolymer. (I) is emulsified with an amine after first diluting with ethyl glycol acetate to the desired viscosity, then adding amine oxide with continuous agitation. This is then added to the polymer or copolymer at 45-50 degrees. If a vinyl methyl ether/maleic anhydride copolymer is also used, it is added in the form of a semi amide. The binding agent thus obtd. is used on fabrics instead of untreated polymers. It has excellent adherence, good stability to creasing, and good flexibility, even at low temps. It renders possible an increase in the percentage of pigmentary weighting agents that can be added, without causing the powdering associated with conventional binders. It also makes possible the incorporation of optical brighteners which are insoluble in water but soluble in (I).</p> |
